Gifs work fine, I have tested several. I recommend uploading them to an image upload site such as Photobucket and using the link given from there. Make sure the file is actually saved as a .gif too.

Are you uploading directly from your PC? If so try uploading it to Photobucket or something first then copying the direct link from there.
