Do you like the idea
Should SFT get its own domain?
Some people may have seen the question I asked in the skype conversation about SFT buying a domain and hosting it's own website with a fully customizable forum. I did some investigation and it is possible altough it will cost something (costs are included in a spoiler).
Introduction
SFT, Skills for thrills, the biggest clan on 2006scape currently and only 15 users on forums? That screams for some improvement! We are the biggest clan, but not many people visit the forums or even talk to any of us eventhough the memberlist is visable on the 2006scape forums. Hopefully this idea can change all that and make us a popular skiller community in 2006Scape.

Website content
- Spoiler:
The website language will ofcourse be english, although it is possible to translate texts, I do not think it will be a bonus. Therefor there will be only 1 language available, english.
The website will containt a few tabs to different subpages. Those pages are just an idea and you guys are free to come up with ideas! Currently I got:
- Index page
Will include options to go to the subpages
- Important people (achievement page)
Page onwhich you can see who is staff, people who achieved a 99 or in the case of 'trail' a mentioning a person that got a mod/admin rank on 2006scape.
- Clan video page
A page were videos are posted of the clan events or gatherings that have been organised.
- Usefull links
A page for the usefull links like 2006scape, the wiki or even all the youtube channels of clan members
Here is something quick I created last year in school for out virtual company (project).

Forum
- Spoiler:
Since the day I've joined I was annoyed by the forum program. Forummotion isn't bad as a start, but if a domain is bought we could also improve the forums to a new level.
There are 2 options that we can pick, forumwise. vBulletin or phpBB. Both of them are free and pretty easy to use.
They will require a MySQL database setup which means I will only have access to the database before even information is entered on it. I will make sure the database login and password will go to Jwc so once the website is online, I will not be able to check your passwords
The forum can have the same ranks and rank images as we currently have. With a mod install, the administrator will be able to give everyone their postcount back on the new forums.
Unfortunatly, there is no way to transfer topics from forumotion to phpBB or vBulletin. So when this idea will become reality, there will be a notification that threads you want to keep, should be copied into a .txt file.

Buying a domain isn't for free. But it gives the clan so much possibilities with a fully customizable website and forums. For the people who are interested:
Domain registration:
= 9.99$ (.net)
= 10.47$ (.org)
= 2.99$ (.info)
Site protection:
= 12.95$ (each year)
Website security
= 12.95$ (each year) - Anti virtus
Domain privacy
= 8.99$ (each year)
In total that would be: 44.88$ (.net) + 5.44% VAT = 50.32$ (first year, all expenses). At www.domain.com

I can understand, but if we want to improve a lot, some invested is required. I got 6$ on my paypal and I would be happy to donate it to Jwc towards getting a domain. If this idea can be achieved.
Re: Should SFT get its own domain?
some domains are like 10 bucks for a year i'm pretty sure, the only thing i hope are posts and ranks can be transferred because is players lose it players will lose interest in posting.

All ranks and postcount can be restored. The are easy to add in, the postcount restoration will require a MOD. But it will be possible to give everyone their rank.
I could setup a free forum as testing
Re: Should SFT get its own domain?
May I suggest something called ip.board. That's the host the previous 2006scape forums used and they were extremely good.

I'll check it out, thanks for the tip
EDIT: Ip.board costs 10$ per month of 175$, so it's not cheaper then vBulletin or phpBB + domain.

It would be nice but we need the money first.

It would be nice, but is not necessary, by the way, who will pay for it?

I'm looking for a way to get the money from advertisements on the site. But lately I didn't had much time, but I'll try to spend some time on it, same for a design for the website.
Re: Should SFT get its own domain?
Well i study computer science, and my university can maybe give us a free server
I can try asking the tech department and see if it possible

Use vBulletin, very user friendly and clean looking.

I also suggest ip.board, the old 2006scape website host. That would be very cool to have as it was used for 2006Scape! It's also just as user-friendly as vBulletin, but I fear it is a bit more pricey.

We will have to see. Might need donations to make that happen.

Yeah, I just realised I already suggested that, and my company 'Pyramid Gaming' also looked at ip.board, it's extremely expensive, but a brilliant host.
